Open role
Head of Planning — Founding Team
Vancouver or Toronto (hybrid), or remote across Canada · Full-time · Founding equity
We're looking for our founding Head of Planning — the person who builds the practice from the first client up, sets the standard for what Foundry advice means, and helps prove that a modern advice-only firm can serve more people, better, than the old model ever could.
This is a rare seat. You'll have decades of planning craft and a blank page. If you've spent years thinking "I could do this so much better if it were built right" — this is the build.
Why this role is different
- Real ownership. Founding equity and a genuine say in every major decision — a firm you help build and share in, not a desk at someone else's.
- Clients first, by design. Nothing you recommend is ever shaped by what someone's selling, because we don't sell anything. Your only job is the right answer for the person in front of you.
- You set the standard. The service model, the planning methodology, the client experience, how we hire and train the next planners — you own it, alongside the founder.
- Tools that give you your time back. AI handles the admin — data gathering, first drafts, meeting notes, monitoring — so your hours go to clients and judgment. You'll help define how planner and AI work together.
What you'll do
- Serve clients from day one. Early on you're a player-coach: you'll personally lead Blueprints for our first clients — retirement and decumulation, tax and entity planning, equity comp, estate, cross-border.
- Define the standard. Build the planning methodology, templates, and quality bar that every future Foundry plan is held to. You are the credential anchor and the sign-off on advice quality.
- Build the team. Hire, mentor, and develop the next planners and associates. Design how we grow our own talent — the thing that lets us scale without losing quality.
- Shape the product. Work hand-in-hand with the founder and our engineer to turn planning workflow into software — what the AI drafts, what it monitors, where the human always stays in the loop.
- Help set pricing, packaging, and partnerships as we grow (PMs, CPA firms, employers, credit unions).
Who you are
The experience
- CFP (or QAFP on a clear path to CFP) in good standing — non-negotiable.
- Years of real, hands-on financial planning — ideally including decumulation/retirement, tax-efficient drawdown, business-owner/incorporated-professional planning, equity comp, or cross-border (US/Canada). You don't need all of it; depth in several matters.
- You've built plans people actually understand and act on, and you can explain a hard decision in plain language.
The entrepreneurial half — equally important
- You want to change the industry, not just leave a firm. You're here because the model is broken and you want to help fix it.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and a blank page. You'd rather build the process than be handed one.
- Bias to action, low ego, high ownership. You'll do the unglamorous founding-stage work and still set the strategy.
- Genuinely curious about technology and AI as leverage — excited to plan with good tools, not threatened by them.
- You measure yourself by client outcomes and the firm you're building, not by assets gathered.
If you've got 20 years of experience but you're done with product targets, or 5 years and a chip on your shoulder about how the industry treats clients — both can be the right person. The combination of craft and drive is what we're after.
What's in it for you
- Founding equity and a real seat at the table on every major decision.
- Competitive base plus meaningful performance and equity upside.
- The chance to build the planning function of a firm designed, from scratch, around the client.
- Modern tooling, no legacy systems, no product shelf to push.
- Hybrid in Vancouver or Toronto, or remote anywhere in Canada.
How to apply
Apply through our contact form — and in the message, tell us in your own words what's broken about financial advice in Canada and what you'd build differently. A résumé is welcome, but the note matters more.
